Wooden Knitting Needles from Dowel
A knitting needle's size is simply its diameter in millimetres, so a dowel of the right size is most of the job. One end is tapered to a smooth, rounded point that slips into the stitch without splitting the yarn, and the wood is sanded glassy so the stitches slide.
