Natural wax secreted by honeybees (Apis mellifera) to build comb. Melts at 62–64 °C, producing a pliable, water-resistant solid used in lost-wax casting, encaustic painting, leather conditioning, candle-making, wood finishing, and as a sealant. Composed primarily of esters of fatty acids and long-chain alcohols.
