Cadmium Oxide: Cadmium Heated in a Current of Oxygen (Thorpe 1912)
Cadmium oxide is a brown powder that does not melt and does not dissolve in water. Heat cadmium in a current of oxygen and the oxide condenses as small octahedral crystals.
Source: Thorpe, Dictionary of Applied Chemistry vol. 1 (1912), Cadmium. Not given: the temperature; the furnace is ours. Cadmium oxide fume is deadly to breathe: closed tube, extraction to a fume hood, respirator. Picture drawn by Youblob.
