Lithium: Fused Lithium and Potassium Chlorides Electrolysed (Guntz, Thorpe 1912)
Carbon and iron cannot free lithium, but a current can. Potassium chloride lowers the melting point of the bath; lithium collects at the cathode and chlorine bubbles off the anode.
Result: silver-white lithium, the lightest of all solids (sp. gr. 0.59), melting at 180 °C.
Source: Thorpe, Dictionary of Applied Chemistry vol. 3 (1912), p. 337, after Guntz (Compt. rend. 117, 732). Not given: vessel, electrodes, current and temperature. Chlorine is a poison gas. Picture drawn by Youblob.
