Potassium nitrate (KNO₃), also known as saltpeter or niter. A powerful oxidiser used in black powder (75% KNO₃, 15% charcoal, 10% sulfur), meat curing, fertiliser, and pyrotechnics. Historically collected from bat guano, compost heaps, or nitrate-rich soils in caves and stables.
