Lapping Compound: Emery Ground, Settled Fine and Mixed with Oil

Lapping rubs two surfaces together with an abrasive between them; in hand lapping a slurry of emery powder is spread on the plate. Crush and grind emery rock, settle out the fine part in water, dry it and mix it with oil into a paste. The picture: our diagram, emery rock, grinding, fine powder in oil.
