Tororo-aoi Neri: Roots Pounded and Soaked Overnight for Washi

Neri is the slippery root mucilage that washi makers stir into the vat. Wash and pound tororo-aoi roots, soak them in water for a day and a night, and strain the sticky liquid. It spoils quickly, which is why washi is made in winter. The picture: our diagram, roots, soaking, strained neri.
