White Slip: Kaolin Stirred into Water and Sieved

Slip is clay made liquid with water. White slip, from white kaolin, covers a red clay body so it can be painted, joins handles and spouts to leather-hard ware, and is trailed or painted on as decoration. Soak the dry clay, stir it smooth, sieve it, and thin it until it pours like cream. The picture: Miletus ware, a red body under white slip, painted blue.
