Soda Lime: 2 Parts Quicklime Slaked with 1 Part Caustic Soda

Soda lime is lime and caustic soda dried together into grains. Packed in a tube it absorbs carbon dioxide from a gas, and the chemist heats substances with it to drive off their nitrogen as ammonia. Thorpe's Dictionary (1912): slake 2 parts of quicklime with a strong solution of 1 part of caustic soda, dry it in an iron vessel, granulate it and keep it in well-closed bottles.
