Hematite ore (Fe₂O₃) — iron(III) oxide, one of the most abundant iron ores on Earth. Ranges from earthy red (ochre) to specular metallic grey. The primary ore for iron smelting and a historical pigment (red ochre) used in cave paintings dating back 100,000+ years. Also ground as a polishing compound (jeweller's rouge).
