Zinc Oxide (Pharmacy): Zinc Carbonate Precipitated with Hot Soda, Then Heated
The zinc oxide of pharmacy, by the wet route Thorpe's Dictionary (1913) gives: very pure zinc sulphate is precipitated with a hot solution of sodium carbonate, and the dried zinc carbonate is heated to drive off the carbon dioxide. Pure zinc oxide dissolves completely in ammonia.
