Animal hide tanned using a paste of mashed brain tissue, which contains phospholipids that lubricate and soften the collagen fibres. The oldest tanning method — produces exceptionally soft, supple leather that remains flexible when wet. Every animal has roughly enough brain to tan its own hide.
