A small wooden cup (urushi oke) used to collect raw lacquer sap from scored Toxicodendron vernicifluum trees. The cup is placed beneath the scoring cuts to catch the slow-flowing white sap, which oxidizes and darkens as it polymerizes on exposure to humidity.
