A lightweight, plain-weave cotton fabric used for straining liquids, filtering dye baths, wrapping cheese curds, and as a test fabric for natural dyeing. Finer and lighter than cheesecloth, muslin provides a smoother filtrate while remaining permeable enough for gravity straining.
