Beryllium: Glucinum Chloride Vapour over Melted Sodium in Hydrogen (Debray, Roscoe 1913)

Boats in a row inside a glass tube: the first holds beryllium chloride, the rest sodium. Under dry hydrogen the chloride boils off and is stripped of its chlorine by the melted sodium further along. Result: coherent beryllium, a hard, bright silver-white metal (sp. gr. 1.93). Its dust and powder are poisonous to breathe and burn brilliantly. Source: Roscoe and Schorlemmer, A Treatise on Chemistry vol. 2 (1913), p. 618, after Debray. Not given: amounts and how the tube is heated. Picture drawn by Youblob.
