Calcium Nitrate: Chalk Dissolved in Nitric Acid

Calcium nitrate, the lime nitrate or Norwegian saltpetre, is made by dissolving limestone in nitric acid. It is a very common coagulant in latex dipping: a former dipped in its solution first sets the latex on its surface. The salt pulls water from the air, so keep it closed.
