Clove Oil Steam-Distilled from Clove Buds

Clove oil is distilled with steam from the dried flower buds of the clove tree; it is mostly eugenol. It flavours food and toothpaste, goes into choji oil for Japanese swords, and is added to handmade inks and paints. Crush the buds, distil them with water in the alembic, and draw the oil off the water in the receiver. The picture: clove oil in a vial.
