Dilute Sulfuric Acid: Concentrated Acid Poured into Water

Dilute sulfuric acid, for dissolving copper oxide into copper sulfate and for pickling, is made from the concentrated acid. Mixing the two gives off a great deal of heat, so the acid always goes into the water, slowly, never the water into the acid. We make it about 10 % by weight.
