Element Holding Strips: Notched Steel Webs for a Cast-In Heating Coil

A tubular heating coil cast into a hot plate must not shift while the metal is poured. Jordan and Schneider (US 1,998,764, 1935) hold it with strips of sheet metal or wire fixed across its turns, or with webs notched for each turn whose slotted tongues are bent round the tube. These are the notched webs, cut from mild steel sheet; sizes are ours. The picture: Figs. 3–7 of US 1,998,764: holding strips f, notched webs g.

Instructions

1

Measure the coil

2

Cut the strips

Cut strips 10 mm wide from 1 mm mild steel sheet, each long enough to cross all the turns.
