Ethylene Dichloride: Ethylene into Nascent Chlorine, Limpricht's Method

Ethylene led into a warm mixture of manganese dioxide, salt, water and sulfuric acid meets the chlorine that mixture gives off and joins with it; when the mass turns yellow, ethylene dichloride ("Dutch liquid") is distilled off as a heavy oil that boils at about 84 °C (Limpricht, in Thorpe 1912). It is the starting point of the ethylene amines. The picture: our diagram of the four stages.
