Gasoline and Naphtha: Benzine Distillate Redistilled by Steam Heat, Cut by Baumé Gravity (Sadtler, in Thorpe 1913)
The light benzine cut from the crude still is distilled a second time, gently, with steam coils instead of fire, and split by gravity into a ladder of products from the lightest to the heaviest. Gasolene, the motor fuel of the day, is the 80 to 90° Baumé cut; naphtha comes at 70 to 76°.
Variable: which cuts you keep. Sadtler lists five: cymogen 100-110° Bé, rhigolene 90-100°, gasolene 80-90°, naphtha 70-76° and benzine 62°.
Source: Sadtler, American Petroleum, in Thorpe's Dictionary of Applied Chemistry, vol. 4 (1913). Not given: temperatures. Ours: switching receivers by the gravity of test portions. These vapours are extremely flammable: no fire or spark anywhere near. Picture drawn by Youblob.

Charge 500 barrels into the steam still
Charge 500 barrels into the steam still
Run the benzine distillate into a cylindrical still heated by steam, holding 500 barrels. Steam heat, not fire: the vapours are extremely flammable.

Distil slowly, about 48 hours a charge
Heat with steam and condense the vapours in water-cooled coils. Working one charge takes about 48 hours.

Cut by Baumé gravity
Collect the run in separate receivers as its gravity falls: cymogen 100-110° Bé, rhigolene 90-100°, gasolene 80-90°, naphtha 70-76°, benzine 62°. Sadtler gives no temperatures. Ours: test portions with a hydrometer and switch receivers at these gravities.

Store gasolene and naphtha
Store the gasolene and naphtha in closed tanks. Benzine meant for solvents is afterwards deodorised with about 1/2 % sulphuric acid, stirred by paddles; that step is not part of this blueprint.
