Glycerol Dichlorohydrin: Glycerol Saturated with Hydrogen Chloride, Organic Syntheses 1922
Dry hydrogen chloride bubbled into hot glycerol with a little acetic acid is taken up until the flask has gained about 875 g per kilo; neutralised and distilled under vacuum it gives glycerol dichlorohydrin (Conant and Quayle, Organic Syntheses 1922: 700–720 g pure). Dichlorohydrin is the step before epichlorohydrin.
