Compacted Clay Lining: Clay Puddled with Water and Trodden in Layers
Puddle clay is clay chopped and worked with water until plastic, then laid in layers and trodden down into a watertight skin; it lined canals, reservoirs and tanning pits. Lay it in the bottom of an evaporation pan and keep it wet: dried out, it no longer holds water.
The picture: our diagram, a pan lined with layers of puddled clay.
