Riven Wooden Stakes and Wedges
Stakes for fences, tents and gardens and wedges for splitting and tightening are split from logs, not sawn: a split follows the grain, so the piece stays strong along its length. Stakes are pointed at one end; wedges are tapered from a thick head to a thin edge. Shave a stake smooth on the shaving horse if it must be driven cleanly.
