Shellac Varnish: Flakes Dissolved in Alcohol

Liquid shellac is shellac flakes ground and dissolved in alcohol. Its strength is called the cut: pounds of flakes per gallon of alcohol. Mixed, it keeps about a year, so make it as you need it. If it stays tacky for a long time after brushing, it is too old. The picture: several grades of shellac flakes.
