Woven Bamboo Drying Mat from Split-Cane Strips

A bamboo mat is two sets of thin bamboo strips interlaced at right angles. Spread in the sun, it carries rice, tea, herbs or rice paper to dry while air passes through. Shave split cane into thin, even strips, soak them, weave them over one and under one, and bind the edges. The picture: freshly steamed rice paper laid on woven mats to dry in the sun.
