Zinc Chloride: Scrap Zinc in Hydrochloric Acid, Cleared with Bleaching Powder and Boiled Down to 230 C (Thorpe 1913)
Zinc dissolves in hydrochloric acid to zinc chloride. The works then took out the iron with bleaching powder and boiled the clear liquor down until it was hot enough to set as a solid salt on cooling, stirring all the time and packing it airtight, because zinc chloride pulls water out of the air.
Result: solid zinc chloride.
