Animal bones that have been stripped of meat, simmered to remove grease, and dried. The cleaned bone is a rigid, workable material used for carving tools, needles, toggles, buttons, and decorative items. Bone is softer than antler but easier to obtain — cattle and deer long bones provide the best working stock.
