Clean, fine-grained sand (0.1–0.25 mm particle size) composed primarily of quartz (SiO₂). Used in mould-making, abrasive finishing, glassmaking flux, and as a refractory bed material in kilns and furnaces. Washed sand free of clay and organic matter is preferred for most maker applications.
