The cyclic tetramer of dimethylsiloxane, [(CH3)2SiO]4, a clear volatile liquid that melts at about 17 C; recovered by cracking the hydrolysate of dimethyldichlorosilane with potash and fractionating, and polymerised into silicone oils and rubbers.
