The chashaku is a slender bamboo scoop carved from a single piece of bamboo, used to measure and transfer matcha powder from the tea caddy (natsume) to the chawan. One scoop holds approximately 1-2 grams of matcha. In formal tea ceremony, the chashaku is a prized personal utensil — tea masters often carve their own and give them poetic names.
