Paste Wax: White Wax Warmed with Spirits of Turpentine, 1892
The wax finish of The Hardwood Finisher (1892): white wax and spirits of turpentine warmed together until they make a thick paste. Rubbed into the wood and polished off, it gives a soft, low shine. It is not durable and water spots it, but a scratch is easily mended with more wax.

Warm the white wax with spirits of turpentine over hot water, stirring, until they make a thick paste. Add turpentine little by little until it has the right thickness. Turpentine burns, so keep it away from open flame.
