Osage Orange Chips: Yellow Heartwood Chipped for the Dyer

Osage orange heartwood is a yellow dyewood: it holds the same colouring matters as fustic, and can be used wherever fustic is (Betts, USDA, 1945). Like other dyewoods it is chipped before use. The wood is very hard, so keep the edges sharp. The picture: freshly cut osage orange, the yellow heartwood inside a thin pale sapwood (photo by Fernando Lopez Anido, Wikimedia Commons, CC BY-SA 4.0).
