Stick Shuttle Cut from a Beech Strip
The shuttle carries the weft yarn through the shed of the loom. The simplest is the stick shuttle: a flat, narrow piece of hard wood with notches at the ends to hold the wound weft. Saw a thin beech strip a little longer than the cloth is wide, cut forked notches at both ends, round every edge and polish it smooth so it slides.
The picture: two stick shuttles wound with yarn.

Cut the notches
Drill a hole near each end and saw from the end into it, making a forked notch that holds the yarn. Cut a shallow long slot in the middle if you like, to make the shuttle lighter.
