Extruded Polystyrene Foam: Butylene-Blown Logs 20 Inches Across (McIntire, Dow 1948, Ex. 4)
Extruded polystyrene foam blown with a butylene gas fraction. 300 lb of polystyrene and about 130 lb of the fraction stand two days at 110 °C under 265 psi. Opened again and again, the tower let out foam logs 20 inches across and 20 feet long, weighing only 0.8 lb per cubic foot. Unknown: a source for the butylene fraction, linked to an unknown head.
