Channel-Ring Dasher Churn: A Hollow Column of Cream Traps Air at Every Stroke
Moses D. Wells of Morgantown, Virginia, received US 13,281, dated 17 July 1855, for a dasher of a central disk and a ring "separated by a passage or channel whose sides incline inward and upward, toward the dasher shaft." Each down stroke throws up a hollow column of cream that closes over air.
This rung prints the dasher and lever bracket, builds the churn and makes butter.

"Its descent causes a rush of cream through the channel e, which current taking the direction of the sides of the channel, forms a continuous hollow column of cream, running upward toward the shaft c, where it meets and incloses the body of air which has been drawn down by the disk portion of the dasher."

Let the heavy cream stand until it reaches about 15 °C, checked with the thermometer. Pour in 2 litres. Work the lever so the dasher lifts clear of the cream each stroke; time until the butter comes. Pour off the buttermilk, add cold water, churn a little and pour off again until it runs clear; work in a pinch of salt and weigh the butter.

History and honest limits
**Moses D. Wells** of Morgantown, Monongalia County, Virginia, US 13,281, 17 July 1855. He claimed the dasher with an inclined continuous channel for the upward flow of a hollow column of cream. A container and printed parts stand in for his churn. FDM prints hold food in their layer lines, so wash well and replace when worn.
