Epichlorohydrin: Dichlorohydrin and Powdered Caustic Soda in Ether, Organic Syntheses 1923
Glycerol dichlorohydrin stirred in dry ether with finely powdered caustic soda loses hydrogen chloride and closes into epichlorohydrin, which is fractionated out at 115–117 °C (Clarke and Hartman, Organic Syntheses 1923: 1290 g gave 705–747 g). Epichlorohydrin is one half of epoxy resin.
