Ferrite Toroid Core: Magnesium-Zinc Ferrite (28 : 18 : 54) Fired at 1400 °C (Snoek)

Ferrite is a ceramic magnet: iron oxide combined with other metal oxides, carrying magnetic flux while hardly conducting electricity. In his first ferrite patent (US 2,452,529, 1948) Snoek at Philips ground the oxides very fine and fired rings in oxygen. This magnesium-zinc ferrite (28 : 18 : 54 mol %) is milled 30 hours and fired 2 hours at 1400 °C; his core had an initial permeability of 150. The picture: our diagram.

Instructions

1

Mix 28 : 18 : 54 mol

Mix pure magnesium oxide, zinc oxide and ferric oxide, 28 : 18 : 54 mol %. Ours, by weight: 10.06 g magnesium oxide, 13.06 g zinc oxide and 76.88 g ferric oxide per 100 g.
