Lazy Susan: a Cross-Grained Top on Rollers and a Centre Pivot

A lazy Susan is a turntable set on a table so dishes can be passed round. In Howell's self-waiting table of 1891 the turning top is made of two thicknesses of wood glued with the grain crossed, mounted on a central pivot and running on rollers. This free-standing version puts the rollers and pivot on a base disc; the sizes are ours. The picture: Howell's patent drawing, US 464,073.
