Lo Wong Klom (Bamboo Hoop and Stick) — a 1 m Bamboo Half 2-3 cm Wide, Shaved Thin Inside Leaving the Skin, Bent into a Ring and Tied, with a 20-30 cm Striking Stick; Bowled Along in Races or Relays

ล้อวงกลม (lo wong klom; also lo wong, ti luk lo) is a folk toy: children strike a hoop with a stick to send it rolling forward, running after it and striking it again, in races or relays. It is cheap, easy to make and good exercise. This blueprint makes a real lo wong klom to the sizes in the source.

How to play

Play in the yard or on the road, striking the hoop with the stick to keep it rolling; the stick steers it. Children race their hoops or play it as a relay. It is exercise, trains steering, and builds team spirit.

History and limits

The lo wong klom is cheap, easy to make and played in groups. Take care with the knife and axe when splitting and shaving. Source: Sirindhorn Anthropology Centre, Traditional Objects of Everyday Use database, "ล้อวงกลม", author not named (CC BY 4.0 licence). **Limits** The source gives no hoop diameter. The source's spellings of the tying materials ("เชือกปก", "ดอกไม้ไผ่") are read as jute string and bamboo strip.
