Potassium Dichromate from Chrome Ore and Nitre, Ure 1839
Bichromate of potash, the red salt of calico printers and dyers, comes from chrome ore. Andrew Ure (1839): roast the ground ore with saltpetre, wash out the yellow chromate of potash, and turn it red with an acid.
