Silicone Rubber Compound: Dimethyl Silicone Oil Gelled with Ferric Oxide, Agens 1948
Dimethyl silicone oil mixed with three-quarters its weight of red ferric oxide and a little aluminium chloride, heated to 130 °C, thins and then sets to a solid mass; milled on warm rubber rolls it becomes a silicone rubber compound ready to mould or extrude (Agens, General Electric, US 2,448,756, 1948). Cured, it stretches over 100 % and stays flexible at −60 °C.

Weigh the mix
Weigh the mix
To 400 g silicone oil add 300 g ferric oxide (75 % of the oil) and 5 g anhydrous aluminium chloride (1.25 %). Stir it smooth. Keep the chloride dry; it fumes in damp air.
