Stopped Auxiliary Dasher Churn: A Loose Dasher Held Still by a Stop, One Turning Below It

Loomis Lamb of Berlin, Connecticut, received US 15,661, dated 2 September 1856, for a churn with a dasher fixed on the shaft and an auxiliary dasher free on it, held still by a stop on the tub's side, "without any other shaft." This rung prints both dashers, the stop and the step, builds the churn and makes butter.

Read US 15,661

"The peculiar arrangement of each wing of the revolving dasher D, in connection with that of each wing of the stationary or auxiliary dasher, causes liquid when in the tub A, and the dasher D, is in rotation, to be thrown against the wing of the upper dasher and reflected or turned over into the path of the next approaching wing of the revolving dasher."

Print the parts

Print the dasher (/uploads/blueprints/stopped-auxiliary-dasher-churn-dasher.stl), the auxiliary dasher with its round bore (/uploads/blueprints/stopped-auxiliary-dasher-churn-auxiliary-dasher.stl), the stop (/uploads/blueprints/stopped-auxiliary-dasher-churn-stop.stl) and the step (/uploads/blueprints/stopped-auxiliary-dasher-churn-step.stl). Print in PETG at 0.2 mm layers, 30 % infill, 4 walls; wash before first use.

Churn

Let the heavy cream stand until it reaches about 15 °C, checked with the thermometer. Pour in 2 litres, enough to cover the auxiliary dasher. Crank steadily; time until the butter comes. Lift out both dashers together with the shaft. Pour off the buttermilk, add cold water, churn a little and pour off again until it runs clear; work in a pinch of salt and weigh the butter.

History and honest limits

**Loomis Lamb** of Berlin, Hartford County, Connecticut, US 15,661, 2 September 1856, signed 18 June 1856. He did not claim two dashers on concentric shafts turned opposite ways by gears; he claimed the auxiliary dasher on the one shaft, and the stop that holds it. A container and printed parts stand in for his tub. FDM prints hold food in their layer lines, so wash well and replace when worn.
