Subcarbonate of Iron: Iron Sulfate and Soda Crystals, USP 1860

Mix a solution of iron sulfate with one of washing soda and a reddish-brown powder settles out: the "precipitated carbonate of iron" of the 1860 US Pharmacopoeia. Washed and dried without heat, it is the starting point for reduced iron. Source: United States Pharmacopoeia, 4th decennial revision (1860, publ. 1863), Ferri Subcarbonas. The metric figures are our conversions. Picture drawn by Youblob.
