Tannic Acid: Galls Stirred to a Cream with Ether and Pressed (Leconnet)
Leconnet's method (Annalen, 1836), as Thorpe's Dictionary (1913) gives it: stir powdered galls into ether until a thin cream forms, press it, and repeat until no more tannin comes out. Thorpe does not say how the pressed liquid is worked up; evaporating it is ours. Ether is very flammable: no flame, fume hood.
