Turmeric Powder: Rhizomes Boiled, Dried and Ground

Turmeric powder is the rhizome of Curcuma longa boiled in water, dried and ground; its golden colour is curcumin. It is a spice and a dye: a poor fabric dye that fades in light, yet still used for saris and monks' robes. Wear gloves: it stains. The picture: turmeric rhizome, slices and powder.
