Water of Ammonia from Sal Ammoniac and Lime, Ure 1839
Ammonia is a pungent gas that dissolves readily in water. Ure (1839) makes water of ammonia from sal ammoniac and quicklime, mixed to a paste with water and gently heated; the gas passes through a cooled worm into water in Woulfe bottles, which takes up about a third of its weight. Dilute it for use. The gas is dangerous to breathe: work outdoors.
