Isopentane: the 29-30 °C Cut of the Lightest Gasoline (Mabery & Hudson 1897)

Just above the butanes in the lightest gasoline comes a pentane boiling at about 30 °C. Mabery and Hudson collected several hundred grams of the 29-30 °C cut and studied it as isopentane through its chlorine derivative. Result: several hundred grams of a 29-30 °C distillate; its monochloride boiled at 96-97 °C and analysed as C5H11Cl. Source: Mabery & Hudson, Proc. Amer. Acad. 32 (1897), pp. 101-111.
