Osage Orange Chips: Yellow Heartwood Chipped for the Dyer
Osage orange heartwood is a yellow dyewood: it holds the same colouring matters as fustic, and can be used wherever fustic is (Betts, USDA, 1945). Like other dyewoods it is chipped before use. The wood is very hard, so keep the edges sharp.

The wood splits easily: split it with the hatchet, then cut it into small chips or rasp it to coarse shavings. It is very hard, so sharpen the edges often.
