Propeller-and-Spoon Egg Beater: Spoon Arms Break the Swirl
A turning beater soon sets the whole liquid circling with it.
William T. Nicholson of Providence, Rhode Island, received US 32,886, dated 23 July 1861, for an egg beater: a crank wheel with bevelled face teeth turns a pinion and a pair of propeller blades; under the pinion a disk with an elliptic groove rocks two arms ending "in the form of a spoon bill's beak," so "the circling currents occasioned by the blades of the propeller will be broken at regular intervals." It clamps into a socket on a table or lifts out for use by hand.
This rung works out the stroke rates, then prints the crown wheel, pinion, cam and propeller, builds the frame and arms, and times a beating.

"To the under side of the pinion E is secured the disk H (Fig. 5,) its lower surface being furnished with an elliptic groove or channel I. Two arms K K pivoted to the handle at c and d extend to the bottom of the propeller blade their lower extremities being in the form of a spoon bill's beak. A projecting ear e, e on each arm is inserted in the elliptic groove I whereby as the propeller shaft F is rotated to which the disk is attached a reciprocating motion is given to each of the arms."

History and honest limits
History and honest limits
**William T. Nicholson** of Providence, Rhode Island, received US 32,886, dated 23 July 1861. The grooved disk is set with its longest diameter in the same plane as the propeller blades, so the arms clear the blades; the socket or chair fixes to a table by spurs and one wood screw, its inclined sides grasping the handle, which can be lifted out for use by hand. He claimed the reciprocating beaters combined with a revolving beater.
**Honest limits.** FDM prints hold food in their layer lines, so wash well and replace when worn. A crown wheel and spur pinion stand in for his bevelled wheel, and a plywood frame for his handle and socket. Your times are the result.
